At AEW Forbidden Door, Mercedes Mone and Stephanie Vaquer went out and had a classic singles match that impressed fans and critics alike. Vaquer lost the match and signed with WWE shortly afterwards. With that said, it appears Mercedes Mone is taking credit for Vaquer joining WWE.
Stephanie Vaquer ultimately signed contract with WWE and even ended up competing twice during the WWE live events in Mexico back in July. The entire process was handled very swiftly, something that no one could have seen coming.
In her weekly Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone took credit for Stephanie Vaquer’s signing with WWE, reflecting on their experience together at AEW’s Forbidden Door event. Mone recalls that Vaquer arrived just an hour before the doors opened, and they had limited time to discuss their match.
Despite the challenges of communicating in different languages—Mone in English and Vaquer in Spanish—and both wrestlers feeling jet-lagged and hungry, they managed to put on a fantastic match. Mone believes that their match a role in Vaquer being signed by WWE just days later.
”Another time was with Stephanie Vaquer for AEW’s Forbidden Door. Stephanie flew in that day and got to the building maybe an hour before the doors opened. We just talked about the match a little where she speaks a whole different language (Spanish). That was so hard. I’m like, my God, we don’t get time to walk over our moves, we speak two different languages, and we’re both tired, jet lagged, and hungry, too. Yet, that also turned out to be such a great match. She was signed by the WWE days later. I’d like to think our match had a say in that!’‘
As for Stephanie Vaquer now, she made her debut during the October 8 episode of WWE NXT where Vaquer teamed up with Giulia and took out Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. Nonetheless, Vaquer’s match with Mone was certainly an eye-opener for many, so perhaps Mone has the right to take some credit for Vaquer joining WWE in the end.
