Victor Osimhen says Dries Martens has been a big motivator in his career, revealing that he had been watching Galatasaray’s games even before he joined the club, all thanks to the 37-year-old Belgian, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria striker who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September has nothing but praise for Mertens, with whom he shared a special bond at Napoli before their Istanbul reunion.

Osimhen said, as per Tutto Sport, “I had watched some Galatasaray games thanks to Mertens; he is a person I like a lot.

“If I had to describe him, it would take me a long time. We spent a lot of time together; he always motivated me with his speeches. Both he and his family are very precious to me. Icardi? I have known him for years before arriving at Galatasaray. He is one of the legends of this club, and I think I will learn something from him. What he does to score, his assists. He will help us a lot. The same goes for Batshuayi; we will do our best for the team.”

Both players were teammates at Napoli for three years before Martens left the Italian side after guiding them to their first Scudetto title in over three decades in the penultimate season.

Osimhen has hit the ground running in Turkey, scoring two goals and providing four assists in as many games, including a brace in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Kasımpaşa last weekend, with Martens assisting one of the goals.

Galatasaray are currently sweating over Osimhen’s fitness after he picked up a muscle injury during their 3-3 draw against Kasımpaşa last weekend.
