The Argentinian Hopes led by Javier Mascherano had a bad start to the South American qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but secured their place for the final phase. If qualified, Lionel Messi could be there!

All of Argentina will be fixed in eleven days! The Abiceleste U23 led by Javier Mascherano is currently competing in Venezuela for the South American TQO for the men’s football tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Lionel Messi, captain of the 2022 Argentinian world champions, would be up to lead the Olympic selection in France next summer in case of qualification (July 24-August 9)! The Ballon d’Or record holder would then try to win his second gold medal after his coronation in 2008.

The Argentine Hopes had come up against Paraguay (1-1) last week, but they have since beaten Peru (2-0) and especially swept Chile 5-0 on Tuesday evening, thanks in particular to a double from Thiago Almada, the 22-year-old Argentinian prodigy who plays in MLS, at Atlanta United (12 goals, 19 assists last season). They are already qualified for the final phase before a final match, Saturday, against Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay, already out of the race.

Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil as well as the second of the Seleçao group (Ecuador or Venezuela) will compete in a four-way mini-championship and the first two in the ranking will obtain the sesame for Paris 2024. The two football tournaments will be played at the Parc des Princes, the Vélodrome, the Groupama Stadium, the Matmut Atlantique (Bordeaux), Geoffroy-Guichard, the Allianz Arena (Nice) and the Stade de la Beaujoire.
