Forfeited during the last Inter Miami match and for the meeting of the Argentina team, Lionel Messi is the victim of a muscle injury. The 36-year-old number 10 will still miss matches with his club…

At 36 years old, Lionel Messi clearly cannot play all the matches with Inter Miami and the Argentine selection. The Florida club has a strong argument for not releasing its star number 10 for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games football tournament (from July 24 to August 10), in the wake of the Copa América, which could be the last of the captain of the 2022 world champions.

Messi is definitely at a standstill. Replaced at the start of the second half on March 14 against Nashville, for muscle discomfort, he then withdrew from the MLS match against DC United, four days later. But “La Pulga” suffers from a real hamstring injury (the back of the thigh) and must take it easy before resuming training with his teammates.

Messi expected for a shock

The Ballon d'Or record holder will miss two more matches with Inter Miami, against the New York Red Bulls this Saturday, in the suburbs of the Big Apple (7 p.m. French time, live on Apple TV via the MLS Season Pass) , then face New York City FC next week at home. The team led by Tata Martino leads the Eastern Conference after three victories in five matches.

Leo Messi could return to competition for the quarter-final first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup (the Champions League of North and Central America) against Monterrey. Inter Miami will host the Liga MX leader on April 3 (on the night of 3 to 4, on the RMC Sport Twitch channel), in its lair at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. To be continued…
