Author of a double during Miami’s victory at New England (1-4), Lionel Messi took the lead in the MLS scorers rankings.
Lionel Messi and MLS are always a success. Saturday evening, the New England Revolution took advantage of the arrival of Inter Miami to set a new attendance record, as 65,612 spectators filled the aisles of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, the home of the New England Patriots ( NFL).
On the pitch, Messi responded. While the locals opened the scoring after 37 seconds of play, through Thomas Chancalay (1st), the Argentine striker scored twice to put his team back in the right direction (32nd, 68th), and there he is who sits at the top of the MLS scorers’ rankings, with 9 goals in 7 matches.
Miami best attack in MLS
Messi is also the co-best passer in the North American championship, since he distributed his 7th offering of the season, for a certain Luis Suarez (88th). Benjamin Cremaschi had previously allowed the Floridians to break the score (83rd).
With this third victory in a row and this sixth success in eleven matches, Inter Miami temporarily sits at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, with 21 points on the clock, and the best attack in the league (26 goals). Not bad for a team that occupied the depths of the ranking before the arrival of Messi and his gang from South Beach last summer.
