Injured during the Copa America final with Argentina, Lionel Messi has not played since July 14. The Argentine star should nevertheless make his return to the field before the end of the regular season in MLS.

In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Albiceleste will face Chile and Colombia on September 6 and 10. Lionel Messi has not been selected by Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni for these two matches.

A choice that is easily explained. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has still not returned to competition since his ankle injury during the Copa América final against Colombia (1-0) on July 14. However, the former Paris Saint-Germain player should be able to play again in MLS before the end of the regular season.

“I wouldn’t be able to give an approximate number of days after which he will return to training, but it’s not too far away a situation.warned his coach at Inter Miami, Tata Martino, in a press conference. Some of the injuries are physical and some of them are mental, so we have to work through them both ways and I think he’s going through that process.”

Lionel Messi has not played for his club since June 1st. In twelve regular season matches, the Albiceleste international has scored twelve goals. On the night of Saturday to Sunday, Inter Miami will face FC Cincinnati and will aim for qualification in the playoffs.
