Metro issues for many of the Newcastle United fans heading to the Tottenham match.
Sunday’s game a 1.30pm kick-off.
An announcement (see below) from Nexus explaining the situation.
With major work on the Metro system, Newcastle United fans advised to allow plenty of time to get to the game.
Announcement from Metro operator Nexus:
‘Newcastle United supporters are being reminded that buses replace trains between Wallsend and St James for the Premier League game against Spurs on Sunday, 1 September.
Nexus, the public body which runs Metro, will be in the final day of a nine-day major line closure which has allowed for a £1.7m programme of bridge and tunnel modernisation work.
Fans heading into Newcastle city centre on Metro via Wallsend are reminded to allow extra time to get to St James’ Park for the 1.30pm kick off.
A frequent replacement bus service, 900, will run in the affected area, calling at or near all Metro stations on the route. Magpie Movers will be accepted on these buses.
If heading in from North Tyneside, supporters can also opt to get the Metro into Newcastle via Four Lane Ends.
Nexus has been carrying out a series of structural repairs on four different Metro bridges and a section of tunnel in the Manors area of Newcastle.
Works on bridges at Stoddart Street and New Bridge Street – both of which carry traffic over the Metro lines – include grit blasting, repainting, steel work repair, waterproofing and road resurfacing.
