Mia Yim feels like herself after a stint back in NXT.
The former Retribution member, who wrestles under the name Michin, returned to NXT earlier this year, following a disappointing spell on the main roster. Her impressive performances earned her a call-up to Smackdown, where she has continued to impress in the women’s division.
Yim spoke to Denise Salcedo about how the run in NXT helped her “feel like herself” again.
She noted that going back there “felt like home”, and gave her the chance to wrestle more and just have fun. Mia Yim added that the move helped her focus more on her character and just “feel like myself.”
“I’m so thankful for being able to go to NXT for a couple of months. For a while, I was having matches maybe once every two or three months. I live in Dallas now, so I’m not close to the Performance Center to get the rust off. Going to NXT felt like home—this is where I grew up in my WWE career. It felt like I was back, so I was able to shed that layer of insecurities and self-doubt. I just thought, ‘You know what? I’m here to wrestle, so let’s just wrestle.'” Mia Yim said.
“We have a whole crop of new girls there, and I just want to meet them all, teach them whatever I can, and have fun. My mindset going in was just to wrestle and have fun. “
“It was just cool to feel comfortable in the ring again. So when I went back to the main roster, it was like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m used to this. I can do this.’ Going to NXT really helped me mentally, and that’s the big thing—once you get your mind right, everything starts falling into place. I think that’s what’s happening now, and it’s nice to snatch the wig off, focus on my character, and not have to worry about the edges.”
“It’s cool. I feel like myself.”
