Micah Richards has been talking about Newcastle United.
This follows the game at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s team fighting back to get a deserved point against Manchester City.
Gvardiol opening the scoring in the first-half with the help of a deflection off Sando Tonali, then Anthony Gordon winning and scoring a second-half penalty.
Micah Richards analysing the match, the Newcastle United performance against the reigning champions, on Match of The Day:
“I think when you are analysing [Man] City, you talk, can they break a team down?
“It was a little bit slow today, a little bit flat.
“But I think it also coincided with the way Newcastle pressed.
“You see [Anthony] Gordon, I think 33 sprints he had in the game.
“He is relentless playing in that number nine position.
“But what that (Gordon’s workrate and high press) did, it allowed them (Newcastle United) to push really high, leave space in the middle of the park, for Newcastle to be nice and brave.
“We know that Haaland isn’t the best at holding up the ball at times, so Newcastle setting traps.
“You see first it is Gordon going [to press], then it is Barnes backing up, Ederson with a backheel (when last man).
“Then you see how tight Burn is going with Gundogan.
“They (Newcastle) are leaving the space inside [midfield], not over [the top of the Newcastle defence].
“If Haaland gets space in behind then they know it is going to be too tough.
“They know on his (Haaland’s) first touch, they can be nice and aggressive.
“You see it hear again with Burn [pressuring], Haaland ends up kicking it out of play.
“[Man] City just needed to wake up but it kept happening throughout the game.
“Organised, it was definitely a plan from Newcastle, to do what they were doing today.
“I think they (Man City) will be disappointed but you have to give credit to Newcastle.”
Pretty spot on analysis I think from Micah Richards.
