James Gunn’s Superman has added Mikaela Hoover (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) and Christopher McDonald (Hacks) to its cast, Deadline can confirm.

The pair will respectively play Cat Grant and Ron Troupe, a pair of reporters for the Daily Planet, where Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) works. David Corenswet leads the ensemble as Clark Kent/Superman, with Nicholas Hoult as the villain Lex Luthor. Others set for roles in the highly anticipated Warner Bros feature, as previously announced, include Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio and Beck Bennett, to name just a few.

The first title in a revamped DC slate overseen by studio bosses Gunn and Peter Safran, Superman will follow the superhero of the same name as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Gunn is directing from his own script, which draws on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Safran produces the pic, currently in production in Atlanta, which is slated for release on July 11, 2025.

Previously, Hoover has been seen in multiple Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as such titles as The Suicide Squad, Holidate, and The Belko Experiment. Up next, she’ll be seen on the Max series Duster from J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan.

Currently playing Marty on the hit Max series Hacks, McDonald has also appeared of late on Disney+’s Secret Invasion. Among his upcoming projects is the series The Gray House from executive producers Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman.
