Udine town hall has rejected the proposal to grant citizenship to AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who was offended by racist insults during the match against Udinese in Friuli on January 20. To adopt the proposal, the votes of the majority alone were not sufficient. In fact, three quarters of the votes of municipal councilors were required. And the center-right minority, on the other hand, voted unanimously against the proposal of mayor Alberto Felice De Toni, head of the center-left administration.

As a reminder, a few days ago, the mayor of Udine Alberto Felice De Toni announced that he wanted to make the goalkeeper of the France team and AC Milan an honorary citizen of his city, in order to send a message of hope to unify communities like the city. Unfortunately, not everyone liked the proposal: “We lost the opportunity to demonstrate that our city is united and distances itself from what happened”regretted the elected official, according to comments reported by the Italian press.
