After the racist insults against Mike Maignan in Udinese, Gianni Infantino, the boss of Fifa, advocated strong sanctions in order to put an end to this scourge.

Enough is enough ! Saturday evening, the Serie A weekend was spoiled by the monkey cries directed at Mike Maignan during the meeting between Udinese and AC Milan. The French goalkeeper made a terrible rant this Sunday morning, calling for strong measures. “The authorities and the prosecutor, with everything that is happening, if you do nothing, YOU WILL ALSO BE COMPLICOUS”, notably demanded the French international.

Infantino calls for exemplary sanctions

President of Fifa, Gianni Infantino did not wait for Maignan’s message this Sunday noon to react. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the Italian-Swiss leader reacted via Instagram. “These are totally heinous and unacceptable events. There is no room for racism. The targeted players have my unconditional support,” said Infantino in particular.

Above all, the head of the International Federation called for exemplary sanctions in these cases of racism. “In addition to the three-step rule (match interrupted, match interrupted a second time, match stopped completely)we need to implement an automatic green-carpet defeat for the team whose fans uttered racist abuse and pushed for the match to be suspended, as well as global stadium bans and legal proceedings for racism”, he advocated.
