Carlisle United have sacked Mike Williamson.

The former Newcastle United defender getting his marching orders on Monday.

A short official statement (see below) released by Carlisle United.

Mike Williamson appeared to be on an upward trajectory after doing a great job at both Gateshead and MK Dons.

Carlisle United making an approach and having to pay compensation to MK Dons to land him in September 2024.

Mike Williamson led Carlisle United to victory against Swindon in his first League Two game in charge.

However, the next 21 league matches have seen only three wins, with six draws and twelve defeats.

Carlisle United rock bottom of League Two and now five points from safety.

Carlisle United official announcement – 3 February 2025:

‘Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that head coach Mike Williamson has this morning been relieved of his duties and has left the club with immediate effect.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Mike for his efforts during his time at the club.

The club will give a further update in the coming days.’
