Arsenal are eyeing up a move for USA goalkeeper Patrick Schulte should Aaron Ramsdale leave the club in the summer as expected.

Ramsdale’s departure from the Emirates seems all but confirmed having lost his place in the starting XI to David Raya this season.

After the opening four Premier League games, the England international has scarcely been called upon, featuring in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, as well as the Champions League dead rubber against PSV in December.

Mikel Arteta has been forced to select him in the league twice more in the clashes against Raya’s parent club Brentford – though his performances on the whole have been a mixed bag.

With Raya’s loan set to be made permanent for around £30million in the summer, it is very likely that Ramsdale will want to move on in order to secure regular minutes, while Arsenal could do with raising funds from a player sale.

As such, the Gunners have already started looking for a new No.2 keeper, and according to The Telegraph they may have found their man.

Schulte’s eye catching performances for Columbus Crew have put him firmly on the radar of several European sides including Arsenal.

The highly-rated 23-year-old helped his side win the 2023 MLS Cup in his first season with them, and in January he made his debut for the USA in a friendly against Slovenia.

Arsenal liken Schulte to their former American keeper Matt Turner, who left for Nottingham Forest last summer after just one season in North London following an impressive spell in the MLS.

It is not known if Ramsdale will definitely go though, and moreover where he could move to and how much Arsenal would want for him.

The 25-year-old signed for the club in 2021 in a deal worth £24m, having just endured back-to-back relegations with Sheffield United and Bournemouth.

He has two years left on his contract and has conceded just 99 goals in 89 appearances for the Gunners, keeping 32 clean sheets, winning the 2023 Community Shield.

To date, he has won four caps for his country and despite his lack of game time is expected to be in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
