Kylian Mbappé reportedly intends to leave the club due to unfulfilled promises during the last summer transfer window and frustrations related to his role on the field, which he himself has denied. However, the Paris Saint-Germain player has a historic contract that he signed in May last year. By extending his contract with the club for three more years, the international player could potentially earn a total of 630 million euros in gross salary, making it the biggest contract ever signed by a sportsman, according to Le Parisien.

Even though the club president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, stated that “money is not the most important thing for Kylian” at the time of his extension, PSG went to great lengths to ensure that they keep their top scorer from last season in the face of persistent interest from Real Madrid.

Mbappé’s salary represents a quarter of PSG’s budget. The agreement is for two years with an optional third season that can only be triggered by Mbappé. There are no performance-related clauses, such as bonuses for the Champions League or the Ballon d’Or, in the contract. His salary has tripled, now amounting to 6 million euros per month (2.7 million euros after taxes). He also received a 180 million euro signing bonus, payable in three installments in July, and he will receive the full amount even if he leaves early.

In addition, there is a loyalty bonus of 70 million euros at the end of the summer if he stays, which will increase by 10 million euros for each additional season at the club. In total, Mbappé’s earnings in terms of salaries and bonuses paid by the club, amount to the equivalent of 210 million euros per year, representing a quarter of PSG’s budget.
