The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has suspended the strike action it embarked upon two days ago.
Recall that workers in the state were among the civil servants in the country that have yet to receive the new minimum wage.
The state chapter of the NLC had asked the civil servants to embark on an indefinite strike as directed by the national body of the union.
However, the strike was suspended on Tuesday following an agreement between the labour unions and the state government.
According to the agreement, the state government has agreed to pay N70,000 new minimum wage to civil servants in the state beginning from March 2025.
A Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage in March 2025 was signed between organised labour and the state government.
The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, said, “The state government will begin payment of the new national minimum wage in March next year after the completion of the worker’s verification exercise.
“A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the state government and the organised labour.”
The NLC chairman, Sani Halliru, commended the state government for the gesture and urged the civil servants to return to work.
“We are calling on the civil servants to return to their respective working places from today Tuesday.
“We thank the state government for this arrangement, hoping that the new minimum wage will be implemented in March 2025”, he said.
