The Minister of State-designate in charge of Public Sector Reforms, Ms Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has assured that she will leverage digital technology to eliminate corrupt practices towards improving the sector.

According to her, the use of technology would help ensure transparency and accountability and enhance productivity in the affairs and administration of the public sector.

Ms Akanvariba gave the assurance when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra yesterday.

She indicated that by strengthening the sector through training and capacity building, issues could be easily addressed through improved digital platforms.

Ms Akanvariba said even though digitialisation and e-governance were not enough, when incorporated it would help transform the sector into an efficient and effective entity.

The nominee opined that the public sector could not develop without the private sector, hence the need to engage and collaborate with the private sector for the development of the country.

Ms Akanvariba noted that the sector was facing a lot of challenges, citing corruption, bureaucracy, and limited resources hindering progress.

She cited the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) as one of the institutions having limited resources.

To address this, Ms Akanvariba said when given the nod, she will work collectively with the Ministry of Communications, agencies, and other private service providers to strengthen and build on already existing development of her predecessors.

She cited the use of technology and innovation, capacity building and engaging the services of relevant stakeholders as some of the measures she would employ to curb these challenges.

She said there was the need for a national dialogue to enable successors of the sector to know and learn more about the progress of the predecessors in a bid to review the recruitment process within the public sector.

Ms Akanvariba also emphasised the importance of efficiency, and transparency in the sector, to ensure better governance and service delivery.

Answering questions on the operations of the School Feeding and Free Senior High School food supply programme, the nominee indicated that a digital platform would be developed to track number of children that would be fed daily as well as the quantity of food supplied.

Ms Akanvariba reaffirmed her commitment to driving reforms that will modernise the public sector, and enhance its role in national development.
