Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has urged residents of Abia State to cue into Federal Government intervention programs designed to ease the impact of recent policy changes, particularly, the removal of the fuel subsidy.”
Idris, also explained that the administration of President Ahmed Tinubu is not blind nor indifferent to several challenges Nigerians are passing through on daily basis, consequently the programs were introduce to address the challenges.
The minister explained in an address presented at a one-day sensitization program at the Police Officers Mess in Umuahia, Abia State capital.
The Information Minister whose address was presented by the Head of Centre, Federal Information Centre, Abia State, Lady Ify Abiakam, disclosed that the President Tinunbu administration remains deeply committed to cushioning the effects of these changes through a series of strategic initiatives aimed at addressing various sectors and needs of Nigerians.
He said, “These programs are vital for fostering economic growth, creating job opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life for every Nigerian.
“Let me also remind you that we are here to tell you that hope is alive – that amidst the changes, a multitude of opportunities are being created to help cushion the effects of this policy.
“The Federal Government is committed to standing by the people, ensuring that no one is left behind. These intervention programs are designed with you in mind, they are meant to empower, uplift, and provide relief where it is mostly needed.”
He pointed out that the initiatives are not just statistics or policies, rather, they are a symbol of the government’s dedication to supporting every Nigerian by ensuring that the doors of opportunities remain open.
“We are not just addressing the challenges of today; we are building a pathway to a better tomorrow”
He urged states and local government areas to actively disseminate information about these initiatives and ensure that citizens across all regions are fully aware and encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.
The chairman of the occasion and former member of the state House of Assembly who represented, Umuahia South State constituency, Hon. Jerry Uzosike thanked President Tinubu for his consideration of providing these intervention programs to cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy.
He enjoined people of the State not to footdrag in participating in the program as they are real as people have started benefitting from them.
A major highlight of the event was a question and answer series where relevant heads of Federal Government agencies, offer further clarifications on some grey areas.
In their goodwill messages, the former Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Geoffrey Onwuka, regretted that people of the South East always distance themselves from participating in Federal Government policies and programs, even as he called while called for change of attitude.
He said, “I am happy with the Federal Government with these intervention programs, let us participate in these programs, let us go back and tell our people about the need for them to participate and not to stay away.”
Also in his brief remarks, the Sarinki Hausa community, Abia State, Sariki Yaro Danladi, challenged the South-East zone people not to miss the opportunity as the funds being given is for all Nigerians.
In a presentation earlier on the current Federal Government Intervention Programs, the Abia State Director of National Orientation Agency, Mrs Regina Iroha, disclosed that there are over fifty of such intervention programs but limited it to eleven that are active for Nigerians to participate.
