Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, on Tuesday declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not be weakened by intimidation or political persecution.

He accused the government of allegedly using state institutions to harass political opponents.

Commenting on the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, on the Floor of Parliament in Accra, Mr Afenyo-Markin said “Mr Speaker, you can arrest all of us, but we will remain resolute. No amount of intimidation will break our spirit. In 2028, we will defeat you and restore true governance to this country”.

The Minority Leader also criticised the government’s alleged misuse of the justice system, arguing that governance should focus on national development rather than political witch-hunting.

“Mr Speaker, a government that prioritises persecution over progress is bound to fail. Ghanaians are watching, and they will decide in 2028,” Mr Afenyo-Markin warned.

The Minority Leader urged the NPP to be steadfast, and reassured supporters that the Minority remained committed to defending democracy and holding the government accountable.

The 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government was presented to Parliament by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, on Tuesday, March 11 on the theme: “Resetting Ghana for the Economy We Want.”

The comment on the budget ended on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, following the Majority and Minority Leaders’ comments.
