Organizers of Miss Universe Nigeria on Friday invited former Miss South Africa 2024 finalist Chidimma Adetshina to participate in the 2024 edition after she withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant.
TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports Adetshina on Thursday in a formal statement, pulled out from the beauty pageant following attacks over her Nigerian ancestry.
Chidimma, born to Nigerian and Mozambican parents, has endured a series of severe xenophobic attacks from the South African public since she was named among the ten finalists set to compete in the Miss South Africa grand finale on August 10, 2024, in Pretoria.
Reacting to Chidima’s withdrawal, Miss Universe Nigeria, in a statement on Friday signed by its national director Guy Murray-Bruce, said the invitation is an opportunity for the Nigerian to represent her father’s native land.
The statement said, “As a Nigerian by heritage, we would like to formally invite you to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant. This is an opportunity to represent your father’s native land on an international stage, and we believe you would be an outstanding contender.”
The organizers further urged the 23-year-old model to consider the invitation and take part in a “competition that celebrates the strength, intelligence and diversity of Nigerian women.”
It added that if Adetshina wishes to participate all she needed to do is to respond to the invitation and she would be guided through the process.
