There seems to be a rift between the Daydream tag partners Miu Watanabe and Rika Tatsumi following their recent singles championship match.
At TJPW Summer Sun Princess 2024, long-time friends and rivals Miu Watanabe and Rika Tatsumi faced off for the Princess of Princess Championship in the main event. Despite a tough showing by the White Dragon Rika, it was Miu Watanabe who came out on top to successfully retain her title for the third time in this reign. The two then exchanged a few words in the ring post-match to which Rika had expressed feeling a “turning point” in their team and friendship.
After the show, Miu Watanabe headed to the backstage press area to respond to Rika Tatsumi’s words. There, she stated that she believes there is more for them to achieve together as a team in TJPW despite her being singles champion. “After fighting, I thought it would be great if we could continue to work hard as Daydream and aim for even greater heights with Daydream. Rika said that she had reached a turning point in Daydream. That’s not true! Rika-san? Definitely not,” she told the media.
Miu Watanabe and Rika Tatsumi have a long history as tag partners. As Daydream, the duo went on to win the TJPW Max Heart Tag Tournament in 2022. They are also former Princess Tag Team Champions to which they held the titles for a little over a year during that reign. Miu and Rika have also shared the ring a total of three times with Rika scoring victories in two of their encounters. Following their recent clash at Summer Sun Princess 2024, Miu Watanabe’s victory could have caused Rika to drift away from their storied friendship.
Rika Tatsumi will also compete in the upcoming Tokyo Princess Cup Tournament. Should she secure the overall victory, Rika could earn another shot at Miu Watanabe’s Princess of Princess Championship.
