Embassy of Nigeria, Washington DC
Reactions have trailed the video clip of a Nigerian man filming the poor condition of the Nigerian embassy in the United States.
In the viral video posted on X.com on Wednesday and sighted by Saturday PUNCH, the US-based man walked around the embassy, saying it looked dirty and unsecured.
The man, who walked around the embassy to film its entrance and compound, compared it with the Malaysian embassy on the same street.
“This is the Nigerian embassy in America. Just look at! This is the Nigerian embassy. I’m very sure the gate is not even closed,” he said.
“The gate is wide open, anybody can come. No security, no nothing, no police. The flag self don tire. Look at the flag, so tired and weak. Look at the embassy.”
While some netizens supported his opinion, others berated him for condemning the embassy.
Supporting the post, an X user, @Lady_Meansie wrote, “I had the same reaction three years ago. They even still have the red paint splatters on the sign. The whole place looks like an old hostel. And then you look down the street and UAE has a whole decorative fountain in the front.”
Countering the post, another netizen, @DefenseNigeria reacted, “What exactly is the purpose of this video? You lots are always eager to throw your country under the bus and damage her reputation just for clicks and engagement and then paradoxically complain when we are treated with disdain and disrespected abroad.”
“Lol! So make dem dey hide the truth,” @Sweeegu demanded to oppose @DefenseNigeria’s reaction. “The authorities that aren’t doing what they should do, are they not throwing the country under the bus?”
While reacting, @Josh2funnyy said, “Why is he unable to fix the place? As you do not have a job, bro, use a broom to sweep every morning and then go buy some paint to fix the necessary areas. Show your patriotism.”
Meanwhile, the Head of Media, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abdulrahman Adekunle, said the Consulate would address the matter.
