Nolan Gould reflected on spending his childhood in the spotlight and how it changed his life. The 25-year-old actor played Luke Dunphy, the youngest member of the Dunphy family, on Modern Family for all 11 seasons. While on former costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s Dinner’s on Me podcast, Nolan opened up about the experience, saying that it set him up for a “nonlinear” lifestyle. Though he stressed that he “would not change [his] childhood,” Nolan explained how it was hard for him at times to find fame so young. Keep reading to find out more… “I got to be part of such an incredible show. I know that like a lot of other child actors don’t have it as lucky,” Nolan said, via People. It opened a lot of doors for him, but he added that he missed out on a lot of things that typical kids his age experienced such as school. Amid the success of Modern Family, he was accepted to film school but decided not to re-apply again after deferring his enrollment twice. “It closed a lot of doors to the kind of ‘traditional lifestyle.’ … I find it hard to bond with people about the things that everyone went through like, what was high school like,” he admitted. “What was dating like when you were young?” While he didn’t know those things, the actor noted that he did have plenty of experiences that no one else ever would. “So all these doors closed on kind of a traditional lifestyle, but opened up these really beautiful doors on a traditional, nonlinear lifestyle,” he said. “I’m doing a lot of the things now, maybe that people kind of did when they were young.” Nolan added that he was “happy with where I’m at now and I’m so glad I got to be a part of the show.” However, he would probably would not have his kids follow in his footsteps, saying, “I’ve obviously found a lot of joy and love through it, and it opened up a lot of really incredible doors, and also closed a lot of meaningful ones.”
