Mohamed Salah has admitted this is likely to be his “last year” at Liverpool after his brilliant performance against Manchester United.
Salah’s post-match comments on Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 3-0 win have fuelled speculation over his future at the club. The Egyptian’s contract expires at the end of the season and the rumours are only set to intensify after he admitted it was his ‘ last year » at Anfield.
Sky Sports pundits were quick to pick apart Salah’s off-the-cuff comments, with Jamie Carragher saying he would be surprised if Salah was not a Liverpool player next season due to a desire to break more records at the club. But the 32-year-old has made it clear he is very open to the possibility of leaving, with interest from Saudi Arabia widely reported.
Mohamed Salah, the incredible record
” Honestly, I had a good summer, I had a lot of time to stay with myself and try to think positively, because as you know, it’s my last year at the club” , Salah said. I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it. I feel free to play football and we’ll see what happens next year. »
He added: “ Nobody at the club has spoken to me about contracts yet, so I said ‘OK, I’ll play my last season and at the end we’ll see.’ It’s not my responsibility, nobody has spoken to me about the club, but we’ll see.”
The Liverpool star scored and provided two assists in Arne Slot’s side’s comfortable win at Old Trafford, and he said the Reds could have scored “five or six”.
“I agree with you, I was a little surprised. The match could have ended in five or six” he added. “The new manager has his style and he wants everyone to adapt, he had a few meetings with the senior groups saying that we have to set an example for the young players.”
