Monaco: Bayern Munich does not let go of Breel Embolo

Recruited by AS Monaco in 2022 in exchange for €12.5 million and under contract until 2026, can Breel Embolo (27 years old) already leave the Rock? After an encouraging first season (12 goals scored in 32 Ligue 1 matches), the Swiss striker had seriously injured his knee. Returning just in time to play Euro 2024 with the Nati (1 goal), the Monegasque, who had a good end to the season with the club from the Rock, had made headlines by being announced as being in Bayern Munich’s sights. A rumor to which the Swiss had reacted last June.

“I hope you will understand that I cannot say anything about it, out of respect for my club and out of respect for FC Bayern. It is a great club, of course. (…) I know Leroy (Sané), Dayot (Upamecano), Leon (Goretzka) and Choupo (Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting) very well. So it is a club that I watch on Saturdays or Sundays. But I do not think about it and I do not want to comment on it. (…) The Bundesliga is an exciting league, I spent six great years there. My children were born there. I knew two great clubs: Schalke, of course, with its 60,000 supporters, and Borussia Mönchengladbach, where I felt very comfortable and where I had better times. (…) You never know (…), if it becomes a subject, it will have to be studied” he let go before affirming that he was “very happy in Monaco.”

Embolo is in Monaco but…

According to our information, Bayern has not abandoned this lead. Far from it. Since the departure of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, the Munich team has been looking for a new striker. And after seeing Embolo’s performances at the Euro, the Bavarian leaders were reassured and convinced that this lead remained credible and would bring a real plus to Vincent Kompany offensively. For his part, Embolo, who recently changed agents, would be interested in a return to Germany. However, we can tell you that no offer has yet been made to ASM, which wants to keep its number 36 at all costs.

The Embolo option finally has the merit of being interesting for Bayern for two main reasons. The first is that the Swiss knows the Bundesliga well having played three years at Schalke 04 (12 goals, 9 assists in 61 matches from 2016 to 2019) and three years at Borussia Mönchengladbach (25 goals, 20 assists in 106 matches from 2019 to 2022). The second is that he would find at Bayern a certain Max Eberl whom he rubbed shoulders with at Mönchengladbach. Finally, the Swiss international striker has not made a departure an absolute priority since he feels very good on the Rock. Only a big European club of the stature of Bayern could encourage him to leave the Principality. To be continued.
