President Bola Tinubu has been advised to release the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, from detention, to ease the tension in the land.

The traditional ruler of the Ajata-na-Igu Autonomous Community in the Ikwuano Local Government Area, King Larry Ogbonnaya Agwu, handed down this advice on Saturday, on the occasion of the 2024 new yam celebration.

He pleased, “The release of Kanu is important to Ndigbo and if you do so, you will have written your name in gold and things will be smooth for your administration.”

He said, “Buhari started Kanu’s incarceration and you are now holding him. From the history, Igbo and Yoruba are brothers, but they are going back on the pressure to release Kanu. The others (agitators) from other tribes have been released.

“There is nothing you will do that will please the Igbo except you release Kanu. If you release him (Kanu), you will see more developments and all will be easier for you. But by still holding him, you are doing all for nothing.

“Those following you do not advise you well, but they are with you because of what they receive from you. If you release him, the world will be fair to you, but holding him as a political prisoner, you will have much discomfort to contend with.”

King Agwu urged the President, “Ask the DSS to bring Kanu to you, discuss with him and you will be free from guilty conscience,” as he prayed to God to protect the Igbo and touch the heart of Tinubu to release Kanu.

Speaking about the new yam festival, the royal father noted that God made the farm produce to grow, hence the need to thank Him through the Nye yam occasion.

Speaking, the traditional ruler of the Oriendu Autonomous Community of Umuahia North, Eze Philip Ajomiwe, advised the people of the zone to imbibe agriculture.

The Chairman of the occasion and Traditional Prime Minister of Amaoba Ancient Kingdom, Ezeji Amaechila Ekpuru, urged the government at all levels to come up with plans to uplift farming practices and new yam celebration in the southeast.
