Ryan Murphy surprised the audience at the premiere of Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Monday with news about the next installment of his Netflix anthology series. As he introduced on stage the cast of Monsters, including Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny, he announced that there will be a third season starring Sons Of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein.

Murphy didn’t provide additional details about the project, including writers. His announcement was unexpected, I hear, and it is unclear whether all deals for the new installment are done yet.

Season 3 harkens back to the original Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as it centers on another twisted killer. Edward Gein, known as Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, confessed to murdering two women in the 1950s and also allegedly made trophies out of bodies and skin of corpses he exhumed from graveyards.

Monster was created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, with the original installment at #3 on Netflix’s Top 10 list of its most popular English-language programs. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story debuts Thursday.

Based known for his role as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller on FX Sons Of Anarchy, Hunnam also headlined Apple TV+’s Shantaram and will next be seen starring in Prime Video’s Criminal. His most recent feature credit is Netflix’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.
