This Sunday, for the 15th day of Ligue 1, OGC Nice traveled to Montpellier Hérault. Seventh in the standings, the Aiglons, who were coming off a victory against Le Havre (2-1) on Saturday in the league and a defeat in the Europa League against Union Saint-Gilloise (2-1) this Thursday, found Héraultais in difficulty, in 18th place after a defeat against Lens (0-2) last Sunday.

A first half full of intensity

The start of the match was marked by a balance between the two teams, but the Niçois, led by Franck Haise, gradually took the upper hand. After 17 minutes of play, Gaëtan Laborde broke the deadlock. At the entrance to the Montpellier area, he controlled the ball perfectly before curling an unstoppable shot into the right corner of Benjamin Lecomte (0-1). Faithful to his principles, the former Montpellier chose not to celebrate out of respect for his former club.

The response from the MHSC is not long in coming. Five minutes later, Joris Chotard took advantage of a cross to adjust a header which deceived Marcin Bulka (1-1, 22nd). Montpellier seems revived, but Nice quickly takes control thanks to brilliant individual action from Badredine Bouanani. The Nice winger clears two Hérault defenders before landing a shot in the small right net of Lecomte (1-2, 28th). The Montpellier residents tried to react before the break, notably through Téji Savanier (40th) and Arnaud Nordin (44th), but their attempts did not find the net.

The second period starts at an equally high pace. From the 46th minute, Laborde narrowly failed to increase the score during a face-to-face with Lecomte, who brilliantly intervened. Nice multiplies the opportunities, with a long shot from Bouanani (47th) and a dangerous free kick from Sofiane Diop which brushes the right post (52nd).

Despite Nice’s attacks, the defenses of both camps proved solid and played a key role. Supported by its audience, Montpellier continues to push and ends up being rewarded. On a quick counter-attack, Mousa Al-Tamari equalized with a perfectly placed shot in the left corner of the Nice goal (2-2, 80th). Boosted by this goal, the Héraultais tried to force the decision at the end of the match, but their offensives came up against a determined Nice defense. For their part, the Aiglons did not give up, making the end of the match breathtaking.
