Manchester United were restricted to yet another draw in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho was shown a red card for protesting when he thought the Turkish side should have been rewarded a penalty.

Mourinho was still happy with the point as the hosts were underdogs on the night.

United took the lead through Christian Eriksen but failed to keep hold of that advantage when Youssef En-Nesyri equalised four minutes into the second half.

The result – a third straight draw in the Europa League – means Erik ten Hag’s side are sandwiched between Viktoria Plzen and Elfsborg in the play-off positions. Our league position isn’t any better.

Formerly of The Times, Henry Winter is one of the most respected journalists in football. His assessment at full-time made for interesting reading, even if it posed more questions than answers as United continued a disappointing run in Europe.

Winter praised Manuel Ugarte, Eriksen and Alejandro Garnacho – as well as Andre Onana’s heroic double save in the first half.

The journalist went on to question Joshua Zirkzee’s selection ahead of Rasmus Hojlund, Antony ahead of Amad, and Mazraoui played in the Number 10 role.

Winter wrote: “Ugarte very good, Eriksen and Garnacho good, Onana double save superb but, boy, are Manchester United a hard watch. And why Zirkzee ahead of Hojlund? Rested? Antony on ahead of Amad? Mazraoui at 10? More questions than answers again.”

It’s a worrying trend that United regularly pose more questions than answers.

Ten Hag is on thin ice at Old Trafford and needs to start providing answers quickly. INEOS have been patient but they won’t wait forever for things to click on the pitch at United.
