In his effort to cushion the economic challenges facing his constituents, the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Dele Oshinowo, has distributed N50m to 1,000 constituents through the MTN’s MoMo account.

The Senator representing Lagos East, Adetokunbo Aburu, added a donation of N5m to the disbursement, raising the number of beneficiaries to 1,110.

The 1,110 constituents were given N50,000 each through their Momo account at the Tomroyal multipurpose hall in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, Alapere, Lagos.

The gesture, which was done through the council’s “We Lift Community Empowerment initiative” was funded in collaboration with MTN’s mobile money account, commonly called the Momo account.

The chairman of the LCDA noted that the gesture underscored his commitment to the well-being of his constituents, appealing to them to ensure judicious use of the funds.

He said, “In this year alone, we have disbursed N75m through these various WeLift initiatives, and today, we are here to take that commitment even further. WeLift1000 will disburse an additional N50m, impacting the lives of 1,000 vulnerable residents across Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.

“Each of these individuals will receive N50,000, but this is not just about money. It is about hope. It is about giving people the tools to uplift themselves, their families, and their communities.

“The process of selecting these beneficiaries was as thorough as possible, with the involvement of critical community bodies such as the Community Development Associations, Christian Association of Nigeria, artisans’ unions, market leaders, and random surveys conducted across the LCDA. This ensures that this assistance reaches those who need it the most.”

On his part, Senator Abiru, who was a guest at the event, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the council boss, emphasising the continuous need for checks on the well-being of the constituents.

The lawmaker also appealed for empathy for residents in the face of the current economic hardship.

He said, “I urge other public office holders to show empathy and concern to the plight of our people by placing a premium on people’s welfare, as the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA has exemplified today.”
