Manchester United recorded another disappointing result at the weekend after drawing 2-2 against Bournemouth. The performance on display did not warrant more than one point on the day, and it creates more pressure for Erik ten Hag to keep his job at the end of the season.
It was a dire performance and only a few United players come out of it without criticism.
Just one player earned praise from MUTV pundit Phil Bardsley in his post-match analysis. That was Amad Diallo, who has only played five times this season.
Bardsley picked out Amad as the one player providing a shining light on a miserable day for United.
“Big fan, yeah,” Bardsley said, as quoted by United In Focus. “His attitude, his application, you know he’s direct, he’s fearless when he comes on. Obviously, it’s not an easy game to come into but I think he made a bit of a difference today.
“He’s got good pace, he’s got good technical ability, and he’s fighting for his place in that team now and putting players under pressure to get a regular start.”
The highlight of Amad’s season came in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup when he scored a late stoppage-time winner against Liverpool at Old Trafford, only for the referee to send him off (second booking) for taking his shirt off mid-celebration.
Amad should be in contention to start the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City. That could be his sixth game of the season and I hope to see more of the Ivorian winger in a Red shirt.
Even though our results have been terrible lately, United have a good chance of reaching the FA Cup final against Chelsea or Man City.
