Nollywood actress Ini Edo has opened up about her struggles with infertility, revealing that she has endured over six miscarriages and several failed in vitro fertilisation procedures.
In a recent episode of the reality TV series Young, Famous, and African, the 42-year-old actress shared her personal journey, revealing that she got married at 26, hoping to complete her childbearing by 31.
Edo said, however, her marital journey took a different turn due to fertility issues.
After multiple failed attempts, Edo eventually turned to surrogacy to fulfil her dream of becoming a mother, a decision she initially struggled to share publicly.
She said, “My journey is one that I have not really wanted to talk about because it is personal. I went through surrogacy. I never thought I would be someone who would have fertility issues.
“But I have had issues carrying pregnancies long-term, and it looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted it to. So, this option came and I took it.
“I got married at the age of 26 because I thought by 31, I would have been done with childbearing and would be retired to focus on my career. But life did not pan out that way. I have had over six miscarriages. I do not like to go into it. I tried. It was not a fancy way out for me. I have always wanted to do this. I have had IVF. I know what I have dealt with as a woman.”
The actress also reflected on her marital experience, noting that since her marriage to US-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina ended in divorce in 2014, she has remained single, citing concerns about the possibility of entering a toxic relationship.
Edo married Philip Ehiagwina, a US-based businessman, in 2008, but their union ended in divorce in 2014.
