Zinedine Zidane spoke on various subjects to Mamadou Niang this Saturday. The opportunity for the former number ten of the Blues to return to an anecdote involving his wife.
The story is not new since he already told it two years ago during an interview then given to The Team. But this Saturday on the air of Canal+ Sport Africa, Zinedine Zidane looked back on the moment in his career when he could have signed for Olympique de Marseille, before finally opting for the Girondins de Bordeaux. A decision which could have been different if he had been able to play with Enzo Francescoli, his youth idol. The two men will later cross paths during a River Plate-Juventus match and the Uruguayan will give his jersey with which Zinedine Zidane will sleep. Much to the dismay of his wife.
But before talking about this second part of the anecdote, the former Real Madrid coach recounted his passion for Francescoli and what could have made him lean in favor of OM rather than Bordeaux. “ If I had had the opportunity to say to myself: ‘I can have a match with him’, to play with him, it would have been exceptional. » And to recall their meeting on a football field: “ I played against him and somehow, I realized my dream because it was to have his jersey. He played for River Plate and I played for Juventus. We exchanged jerseys. »
Only once
And that’s where Zinedine Zidane told the second part of his story: “ And above all my dream was to sleep with his swimsuit on. So I washed it and slept with it. For me, I had to make my dream come true. My wife wasn’t happy because there were all the ads, but I said: ‘Once’. » A moment which will therefore have marked the fan life of Zinedine Zidane who also once again cited the Brazilian Ronaldo, as being the player who had most impressed him throughout his career.
Also adding that of Ronaldinho, he also spoke of players still active and crossed paths from the time he coached at Real Madrid: “ When I was a coach (…), when you see Kroos, Modric, Benzema and you see that they spend for example an hour on the pitch and they do not lose the ball. Not a single balloon. »
