FC Barcelona have no plans to sign a new defensive midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window.

Hansi Flick is ready to trust the options he already has, including the two promoted Marc Casado and Marc Bernal. But things could change in a week or two.

According to Sport, FC Barcelona will reassess the situation after the La Liga opener against Valencia. Depending on the midfielder’s performances, FC Barcelona could look to sign someone – and currently, that someone would be N’Golo Kante.

Competition for Barça

Kante, who is also being targeted by Atletico Madrid, is determined to leave Al-Ittihad this summer, just a year after joining the Saudi club from Chelsea. Barcelona have been keen on the veteran Frenchman since his time in England.

The problem for Barcelona and Atleti is that Al-Ittihad have no intention of parting ways with Kante this summer. It is likely that both clubs are targeting a loan move, but this stance suggests that would be almost impossible to achieve.
