NADeF inaugurates GH¢4.1m projects at Kenyasi police training school

 Newmont Ahafo De­velopment Foundation (NADeF) has inaugu­rated four projects constructed at the cost of GH¢4.1 million for the Ahafo Regional Police Training School at Kenyasi.

The projects initiated in 2022 and completed this year, comprises of a two-storey class­room block with ancillary facil­ities, two storey Administration block changing and washroom facility and a dais for parade grounds for the Ahafo Regional Police Training School.

At the handing over ceremo­ny at the Kenyasi Police Train­ing School yesterday, the Board Chairman of NADef, Professor Yaw Ofosu Kusi, said the proj­ects formed part of the social corporate responsibility of the foundation towards its 10 host Ahafo communities.

The training school, he said was initiated by the Omanhene of Kenyasi number One, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, with the strong support of the Kenyasi commu­nity but NADeF provided the funding for the training school’s establishment in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.

Since its inception in 2022, NADeF constructed a two storey 200 bed dormitory block at the cost of GH¢1.4 million for the take-off of the police training school.

The bard chairman added that over 150 projects includ­ing health facilities, classroom blocks, teacher’s quarters, water and sanitation facilities, market stalls and electricity extensions have been constructed.

These initiatives have signifi­cantly improved access to edu­cation, healthcare and sanitation services for their communities.

Prof. Ofosu Kusi said the foundation priorities communi­ty participation and ownership and maintains an independent governance structure guided by the principles of integrity, re­spect stewardship participation inclusiveness and transparency.

He commended all stakehold­ers especially the Omanhene of Kenyasi number one, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, Kenyasi number one Sustainable Devel­opment Committee.

The Deputy Ahafo Regional Commander, Assistant Com­missioner of Police (ACP) Richard Gyabi, who represented the Inspector General of Police, commended NADeF for the project.

He said the Police Training School in the area has come at the right time to enhance securi­ty in the Ahafo Region.

He appealed for more sup­port in the area of logistics such as vehicles to enable them carry out petrol duties.

A representative from New­mont Gold Limited, Emmanuel Ato Aubinny, said the projects was as a result of the develop­ment agreement signed by the chiefs and Newmont to ensure value in investment from the mining in their host communi­ties.

Nana Yeboah Asuamah, who represented the Omanhene of Kenyasi number one, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, called on the police for a sustainable plan to ensure maintenance of the facil­ities to guarantee its longevity.
