NADeF invests over GH¢66m in projects …as corporate social responsibility

The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) has invested more than GH¢66million in infrastructure projects spanning various sectors, including educa­tion, health, water and sanitation in 10 communities in its opera­tional areas.

The NADeF is the corporate social responsibility arm of New­mont Ahafo Mines in the Ahafo Region.

The 10 beneficiary communi­ties are Kenyasi No1 and No 2, Ntotroso, Gyedu, Wamanhinso, Yamfo, Susuanso, Afrispakrom, Techire and Adrobaa.

These came to light during an inspection tour of eight infra­structure projects across four communities-Kenyasi No2, Ntotroso, Gyedu and Wamanhin­so by members of the Board of trustees of NADef.

The inspected projects valued at GH¢27.3 million cover education, health, road networks and social amenities and are at various stages of completion.

During the inspection, the team visited Ntotroso where they in­spected a three- storey boys’ hos­tel of the College of Nursing and Midwifery which was about 90 per cent complete and expected to be handed over in six months.

At Gyedu, a three -storey classroom block for the Gyedu Technical Institute was about 70 per cent complete.

At Wamanhinso, the team visited a health centre projects comprising children’s ward, deliv­ery rooms, male and female wards, an outpatient department (OPD) and storerooms.

This facility is currently 99 per cent complete and is projected to be operational in four months.

Additionally, at Kenyasi No2, the team inspected the ongoing University of Energy and Natural Resources satellite campus road upgrade landscaping, installation of lift and audio-visual equipment and furniture provision while a four unit pavilion lecture block was also under construction.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NADef, Professor Yaw Ofosu- Kusi, commend­ed the contractors and said the quality of work carried out so far was a testament of the critical role being played by the Sustainable Development Committees in its oversight responsibilities to ensure value for money.
