The Nigerian Air Force is seeking deeper collaboration with Brazil, particularly in the areas of maintenance, training, and technological advancement.
This was disclosed by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, during an official visit to Brazil.
The visit, according to a statement on Sunday by the service’s spokesperson, Air Commodore, Ehimen Ejodame,
aligns with NAF’s 2025 Strategic Objectives, also including his participation in the Latin America Aerospace Defence and Security Fair held in Rio de Janeiro.
Addressing key stakeholders during the visit, he said Abubakar emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s dynamic security challenges.
“In an increasingly complex and dynamic security environment, strategic partnerships remain a critical pillar in building a more agile, innovative, and combat-ready air force.
“Nigeria and Brazil share a long-standing history of military cooperation, and we are here to strengthen that bond for mutual benefit, ” he quoted the Air Chief as saying.
The Air Chief held high-level talks with the President and CEO of Embraer Defence & Security, Mr Bosco Da Costa Junior, and a representative of the Chief of the Brazilian Air Force, Lieutenant General Malta.
” Discussions focused on sustaining the A-29 Super Tucano fleet and exploring opportunities for collaboration in pilot and technical training, logistics support, and research and development.
“Air Marshal Abubakar also engaged with global aerospace and defence stakeholders, including representatives from Arsenal, FN Herstal, OGMA, and the Portuguese Air Force. These engagements, according to him, are part of ongoing efforts to develop a modern, capable, and resilient air force,” the statement added.
Following the LAAD Fair, the CAS toured Embraer’s production facility in Gavião Peixoto—where the A-29 Super Tucano and KC-390M aircraft are manufactured—as well as GESPI’s facility in São José dos Campos. He commended both companies for their longstanding support and urged continued collaboration in enhancing NAF’s mission readiness.
