NAFDAC seizes counterfeit cosmetics worth ₦37m in Abuja
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has intensified its campaign against counterfeit cosmetics in Abuja, seizing illegal products worth ₦37 million.
Acting on intelligence reports, NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate conducted coordinated raids across several supermarkets and open markets, including Wuse and Garki markets.
A statement from the agency on Tuesday via X said, “Several unregistered and counterfeit cosmetics were seized with a total street value of ₦37 million. NAFDAC is committed to investigating the sources of these illegal products and will take strict regulatory action against those involved.”
The seized items, which were unregistered and counterfeit, will be destroyed in accordance with NAFDAC’s laws and regulations to ensure public safety.
The agency vowed to continue its efforts to rid the market of harmful cosmetics, prioritising consumer health and safety.
“All confiscated items will be destroyed in line with the Agency’s laws and regulations, ensuring public safety,” the statement added.
