Nagoba Jatara Begins in Adilabad

The Nagoba Jatara, the second-largest tribal festival in Telangana, commenced with a grand puja on the occasion of the new moon in the month of Pushyama. The festival is being held in Keslapur village, Adilabad district. Devotees from Telangana and neighboring states gathered in large numbers at the Nagoba Temple to seek blessings from the Nagoba Goddess.

Members of the Mesram family, who are the custodians of the festival, performed the sacred abhishekam using water from the holy Godavari River. This water was brought from Hastinamadugu by the district authorities. Prominent officials such as Adilabad District Collector Rajarsisha, SP Ghaus Alam, MLC Dande Vittal, Khanapur MLA Veduma Bojju Patel, MLA Anil Jadhav, and ITDA PO Kushboo Gupta also participated in the Maha Puja.

Earlier in the day, the Mesram clan members visited the temple of their clan deities and conducted traditional rituals. Following this, the new idol of the Nagoba deity was ceremoniously brought to the temple along with other puja items.

The Mesram clan carried out special rituals using holy water from the Ganga River, brought for the occasion. In accordance with tribal customs, they arrived at the temple in a vibrant procession, accompanied by drumming and chanting, to perform the rituals for the Nagoba deity.

The Maha Jatara, which began at midnight on Monday, is celebrated in strict adherence to the cultural traditions of the tribal community. Worshipping nature as a deity is a deeply rooted practice among the tribals, passed down through generations. The festival is a vivid display of their cultural heritage and devotion.
