The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has voiced strong opposition to the appointment of Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, former Vice-Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University, as Deputy Director-General for Management Services at the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The association contends that, despite her academic qualifications, she lacks the necessary professional background to occupy the position.

Speaking to Citi FM, NAGRAT’s National President, Angel Carbonu, urged the government to reconsider and reverse the decision.

He emphasised that the individual previously holding the role was a professional teacher who had risen through the ranks to become a regional director before assuming the position of Director of Management Services.

Mr Carbonu stressed that the GES should not be treated as an extension of political office, but rather as a professional institution within the public service.

He warned that the association would not accept the appointment of someone without the requisite experience in the education service sector.

"We are calling on the government to withdraw the appointment immediately. She is a professor and is well-suited to a university or technical university setting, but certainly not in the Ghana Education Service," he stated.
