A new web app, Naija Prime, is set to provide a homegrown alternative to popular streaming services by promoting Nigerian films and other creative content.
The creator of the app, Martins Osuofia, stated that the lack of a viable local alternative led him down this path. He said, “One day, I woke up and asked myself, ‘Why don’t we invest in ourselves instead of waiting for others to invest in us’? This app will meet the demands of Nigerians, especially the film industry.”
Discussing the app’s functionality, Osuofia said, “All you have to do is visit our website and watch as much content as you need. We also plan to collaborate with Nollywood to create massive content for us. The goal is to establish a platform where Nollywood movies and Nigerian content get the recognition they deserve, ensuring that our past heroes and pioneers will not be forgotten. We aim to make a mark in Nollywood and compete internationally. It took us three to six months to build this platform.”
He added that feature-length movies, skits, and short films could be uploaded on the app. He however cautioned that if the content did not meet their standard, it would be declined, emphasising the importance of quality control.
