Sad news, Naked & Afraid fans. A fan favorite contestant has been taken too soon.
Sarah Danser, who competed on FIVE seasons of the hit Discovery show, was involved in a terrible car crash on October 20, per KSLA. Honolulu police said the crash took place Sunday night in Kahala. Sarah was a passenger in the car of a 59-year-old man when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a parked car. Authorities assure everyone drugs and alcohol were not a factor.
Sarah was rushed to the hospital and put in critical condition — but sadly nothing could be done. She died on Tuesday, per her family. She was just 34 years old.

The professional SCUBA diver competed on the show in Season 8 and returned for Season 11 — as well as three seasons of the all-star Naked & Afraid XL. They just kept bringing her back. But she wasn’t just beloved by viewers. Her father and brother said she died covered in lei, scarves, and bandanas given to her by friends who came to see her in the hospital. So sad. Her father Dan Danser said:
“I actually saw how much of a difference she made in the lives of others. I think she saved my life once, diving in Indonesia.”
Her company, Island Divers Hawaii, posted their condolences to Facebook on Thursday, writing:
“Heavy hearts as we say goodbye to a good friend and great captain. Sarah brought such great energy to everyone she came in contact with. You will be greatly missed.”
Sarah’s Naked co-star Melissa Lauren wrote:
“Sarah was [one] of the most adventurous souls I’ve ever met. She wasn’t only a fierce survivalist on Naked and Afraid (she completed XL in South Africa with me), but a Breast Cancer survivor who kept an inspiring and positive attitude through her treatment. She loved the ocean, nature and exploring – I always considered her a ‘modern day pirate.’ She was one of those people that saw the world through the eyes of a child, in awe of the things that many of us take for granted. Rest easy Sarah, I know youre out there exploring somewhere.”
Sarah Danser lived on a boat. She survived cancer. She risked her life every day diving. She was a true badass. She’ll certainly be missed. Remember her at her bravest (below).
