The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has commiserated with the families of victims who lost their lives in the helicopter crash last Thursday in Rivers State.
The agency made this known through a statement signed by the Managing Director of NAMA, Farouk Umar, on Sunday.
The agency expressed sorrow over the tragic event that caused the loss of lives.
Eight people were in the helicopter, which crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, but only four bodies have been recovered as search operations continue at the accident site.
“Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones at this difficult and trying moment,” Umar said.
He therefore joined the rest of the nation to mourn the demise of those Nigerians, who he stated paid the supreme price in the course of contributing to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
He hoped that their sacrifice would not be in vain.
“May Almighty God grant their bereaved families and loved ones the courage to bear this irreversible loss and may the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” he added.
Eight people had crashed in the Atlantic Ocean in Port Harcourt on Thursday, following the crash of a Sikorsky SK76 helicopter with the registration number 5N-BQG belonging to Eastwind Aviation.
The helicopter, which had the six staff members of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited onboard and two crew members, was en route from Port Harcourt Military Base to the NUIMANTAN oil rig before the unfortunate accident.
The accident occurred at about 11:22 a.m. along the waterways in Port Harcourt.
The aircraft ditched into the waters near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean.
On Sunday, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau said it was working assiduously to deploy a Remotely Operated Vehicle to the site of the helicopter crash to recover the remaining bodies onboard the aircraft.
