Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has won the parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South Constituency held, yesterday.
The primary became necessary after four-time Member of Parliament, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, was nominated by the ruling party’s flagbearer, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, as his running mate.
Nana Awuah will thus replace Dr Prempeh as the NPP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South going into the December 7 election.
At the Saint Louis Training College, 537 delegates cast their votes at a special delegates conference.
Out of the number, Nana Awuah, a lawyer, polled 376 votes, representing 71.48 per cent of valid votes cast.
His close contestant, Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, a brother of the party’s running mate, polled 141 votes, representing 26.82 per cent of valid votes cast.
Mr James Owusu Boakye, an assembly member for Manhyia Proper had seven votes with Nana Akwasi Coker Gyambibi, the Kotoko Administrator, polling two votes.
Nana Awuah thanked the delegates and called on all party faithful to join him to work hard to retain the seat for the party.
Many party activists were of the view that the outcome of the primary was good, stressing that one family from the Apagya House has been occupying the seat for quite a long time and it was time for a real change.
