Friday Night SmackDown aired tonight from the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, less than 24 hours away from tomorrow’s Clash at the Castle premium live event.
Bayley’s music played to kick off the action to cheers from fans, but it would be her ally in recent weeks, Naomi, who would be stepping into the ring to face off against Chelsea Green, associate of the Women’s Champion’s Clash at the Castle opponent, Piper Niven. Green subsequently cuts a promo hyping up her friend as a “hometown hero” and promising the fans that they’ll witness both of them in winning efforts.
Green and Naomi lock up to begin, but the tides would quickly turn in Naomi’s favor. Green briefly got out of the ring to recoup and would get her lick back on the Girl with the Glow, with glee across her face and boos from fans reverberating before the first commercial break.
As the show returned from the break, Green had maintained her momentum over Naomi with Bayley and the crowd chanting Naomi’s name, helping her take back control of the match, but it wouldn’t stop Green from kicking out at two. Green would then unleash a more aggressive moveset, but Naomi would reverse her repertoire and win the match. A shocked Green would be comforted by Piper.
A video package would air for Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. Both women are aware that they have targets on their backs via the tandems of The Unholy Union and Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler, but promise that they will walk out of Clash at the Castle still the Women’s Tag Team Champions.
B-Fab appeared with the Street Profits as they approached Kevin Owens, with the fab female assuring Owens that the trio have his back in his main event match against Solo Sikoa.
Backstage, Bayley and Naomi were having a conversation that was hijacked on-air with the strange QR codes that have been appearing in the past few weeks. The two end up running into Blair Davenport, who mocks Naomi’s ring gear and “Feel the Glow” catchphrase before walking away. Bayley stops Naomi from trying to attack Blair and tells her that she wants to thank her for having her back. Chelsea Green enters the shot and warns Bayley that come tomorrow, her “pretty piece of jewelry” will be “all ours”, setting up an ambush from Piper onto both the champion and Naomi, pressing them against the wall.
Elektra Lopez accompanied Santos Escobar with the rest of Legado del Fantasma in his match against Apollo Crews. La Madrina proved herself useful by pushing Crews off the top turnbuckle, helping Escobar gain the advantage and pinning him for the victory.
Cathy Kelley was backstage with B-Fab and the Street Profits, asking them about their involvement in the match between Kevin Owens and Solo Sikoa in the main event. B-Fab is given the microphone and talks about how they don’t like The Bloodline, but her spiel is cut short as Solo, Tama Tonga, and Tanga Loa attack the Profits, rendering them unable to help out Owens later on.
Another video package is aired featuring Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. The two make it clear to their opponents tomorrow that they will be getting into the ring with two of the most heartless and ruthless fighters in WWE. For them, it doesn’t matter who they face; they will tear them apart limb by limb, and that will take them on the path to becoming the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Once the video package finished, Michin was already in the ring set to take on this year’s Queen of the Ring, Nia Jax, after their backstage brawl last week. Tiffany Stratton has joined Wade Barrett and Corey Graves on commentary. Michin immediately hit a suicide dive and puts up quite the fight against The Irresistible Force. Tiffany is asked as to why she is interesting in aligning with Nia; she cites Jax’s confidence and status as Queen of the Ring. It’s not long before Stratton and Michin get in each other’s faces, with the Buff Barbie pouring a drink of water in her face and getting thrown into the commentary desk for her troubles. The distraction gives Jax an opportunity to establish momentum, finally taking out Michin with an Annihilator and winning the match in quick fashion.
Monday Night Raw interviewer Jackie Redmond made a visit to the blue show to conduct a short interview with fellow Team Red females Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn (The Unholy Union), asking them about their upcoming triple threat match for the Women’s Tag Team Championship at Clash at the Castle. Tomorrow, they plan on making history as the new champions.
