Nasarawa don urges govt support for young entrepreneurs

In a bid to make youths in the country financially stable and self-reliant, a senior lecturer at the Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Dr. Vincent Paul, has called on the government at all levels to support initiatives that would awaken the entrepreneurial capabilities of young Nigerians.

The lecturer made the call in the Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Sunday during the Launch of the Eggon Youth Magazine and N50 million fund raising for the construction of an entrepreneurship community school in the area.

He explained that entrepreneurial education is a key solution to the economic hardship that the Nigerian youths had been facing, adding that, by empowering young people with skills to start their own businesses and solve local challenges, Nigeria would foster a generation of resilient, innovative, and economically independent youth.

The dom noted that the approach would not only reduce unemployment and poverty but also help to build a diversified and sustainable economy that would instil hope in Nigeria’s youth for a brighter future.

The NSUK senior lecturer who was the Guest Speaker at the occasion, added that entrepreneurial education, when effectively implemented, could serve as a catalyst for economic transformation and social development, leading to lasting positive impacts on Nigeria’s economy and the society as a whole.

He stressed, “Initiatives such as the Entrepreneurship Community School ensures that the goal of entrepreneurship education in achieving self-sufficient, economically empowered and responsible youth population is effectively met.

“However, this requires concerted efforts among us all, the stakeholders. Let me state here with utmost respect and deepest sense of sincerity that your financial contribution to this project will have indelible benefits for many generations to come.”

Therefore, Dr. Paul, urged other invited guests at the occasion to see the project as part of their service to God for an eternal reward, even as he insisted that no sacrifice made for the development of humanity goes unnoticed, especially when done to empower people through education.

The university don further commended the Eggon Youths in the Keffi LGA for the initiative to set up a school and learn about entrepreneurship, and assured of his maximum cooperation and support to them and other youths across the state at all times.

On his part, the Father of the Day and Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Danladi Jatau, who was particularly pleased with the efforts of the Eggon youths in Keffi, said the initiative would go a long way to give relevant skills to the youth and make them more useful to the society.

He further called on the Eggon ethnic group as a whole to work in synergy with other ethnic groups in the state in order to foster unity and more development projects for the betterment of the state.

“The gesture will reduce the level of unemployment, over reliance on government, create skills and capacity for self reliance. The Eggon people can not do it alone. We must work with other ethnic groups in order to achieve greater development,” he said.

Therefore, Jatau enjoined the leadership of the Eggon Youth Movement, Keffi not to relent in making sure that the right thing is done for the realisation of the project, adding that the project when completed would serve not only the Eggons but the entire residents of the state.

Earlier, the Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada praised the Eggon youths for the proactive move to establish an entrepreneurial school in the area, describing them as trailblazers.

Senator Wadada who was represented at the event by Comrade Ego Theophilus, said the Eggon people had identified that educational certificates were important, but skills are even more important, hence their drive to embark on the project.

He described the project as a very laudable one and promised to support them to see that the objectives were met.

Earlier, the Chairman, Eggon Youth Movement, Keffi, Danjuma Benjamin hailed the Speaker and other guests for attending the event.

He said the initiative was a brainchild of the current leadership of the association, which aimed at building capacity and skills of the youth for a better tomorrow.

Arewa PUNCH reports that the high point of the event was the presentation of awards to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Speaker, Senator Ahmed Wadada; and Hon. Ovey John, who represents Keffi East at the State House of Assembly, among others.
