The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its primary elections for councillorship positions in Nasarawa State for October 14, 2024.
The party made this announcement weeks before the state’s November 2 local government elections.
Naija News understands that the APC primaries for chairmanship candidates across the state’s 13 local government areas will take place thereafter on October 16.
The APC State Chairman, Aliyu Bello, announced the party primary election schedule during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lafia on Monday.
This meeting was organized to outline the procedures for selecting the party’s candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship roles.
Bello also indicated that the party has not yet determined whether the primaries will be conducted via consensus, direct, or indirect methods.
He further disclosed that the sale of expression of interest forms for those aspiring to chairmanship and councillorship positions will begin on October 7 and conclude on October 10. The candidate screening process is set to occur from October 10 to 12.
Bello said: “The timetable for the election has just been released by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, in line with the State Local Government Law of 2018 (as amended).
“As you all know, our party will fully participate in the elections with zeal, spirit, and unwavering commitment to emerge victorious.”
Bello called upon APC stakeholders to engage with the upcoming elections with a sense of urgency in order to achieve success for the party.
During the meeting, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule reiterated his dedication to maintaining the APC’s governorship in 2027, coinciding with the conclusion of his second term.
Sule also thanked former governors, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Umaru Al-Makura, for their ongoing participation and support at party gatherings despite their demanding commitments.
