The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure says it has increased the use of home-grown technologies to drive sustainable development in Nigeria.
NASENI disclosed this on Wednesday at the ongoing 19th Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry International Trade Fair in the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency’s Director of Information, Mr Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, said NASENI is committed to transforming Nigeria’s economy through local technological advancements.
“Our participation in this trade fair aligns with NASENI’s mandate to foster industrialisation and promote the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” Ayeoyenikan stated.
He said NASENI is the only federal agency dedicated to research and development, production, and manufacturing of essential technologies.
“Our goal is to develop home-grown capacities that lead to genuine industrialization and sustainable economic growth,” he added.
He said the agency has intensified efforts to accelerate technology transfer and support small and medium enterprises.
“We are focused on three core principles: creation, collaboration, and commercialisation, which are vital for our operations in this new era of NASENI,” he stated.
The trade fair serves as a platform for NASENI to showcase its innovative products, including its transformer, solar CCTV systems, and automated equipment for agriculture, such as the rice thresher and fish dryer.
“These technologies are not only innovative but also critical in addressing the needs of our local industries,” Ayeoyenikan said.
On some of the past successes of the tech agency, he said, “During previous fairs, NASENI garnered awards and secured meaningful engagements with stakeholders, solidifying our position in Nigeria’s technological landscape.”
The agency said it aims to create greater awareness of its offerings and increase support for local products.
Ayeoyenikan encouraged patriotism in supporting local products, saying, “We must prioritise our home-grown technologies. By choosing local solutions we are not only investing in our economy but also empowering our workforce. When we rely on imports, we stifle our potential for innovation and economic activity.
“We have seen significant interest from visitors looking to collaborate with us on various projects. NASENI is determined to elevate Nigeria’s technological landscape. By making equipment and technologies accessible, we can drive economic development and innovation.”
