It’s an important day for PSG. The reigning French champion inaugurated his brand new training center. The PSG Campus in Poissy, already used by the club since last season, is now completed and stands out as one of the most modern sports centers in the world. It is certainly a few kilometers away from Paris compared to Saint-Germain-en-Laye, but this tool should allow the institution to take a new step in its history. But is it a real problem to move away from the capital?
It is quite possible not. In open war for 2 years with the Paris town hall which refuses to sell the Parc des Princes, or which is reluctant to expand it (even at the club’s expense), PSG has made up its mind. Despite messages from supporters refusing the move elsewhere, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi made the decision. The historic Rouge et Bleu grounds will soon be a distant memory. The club will indeed build its own stadium in the years to come, and will de facto leave Paris to play on the other side of the ring road, further away.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi: “We’re going to leave. We have no choice»
“I really like the Parc des Princes, everyone loves it. If I decide with my heart, I say: “we are not leaving”. But when I think with my head, we are deadblurted out the Qatari president on RMC this Thursday. In Europe, all the big clubs have 80,000 or 80,000 seats. If we want to be at this level for our supporters, we have to expand the stadium. We have no other solution. If it’s done? We’re going to leave. We have no choice. The city leaves us no choice. It’s a city decision because we can’t do what we want in the stadium.»
The prospect of the next municipal elections in 2026, and therefore a possible change of management team in Paris, should not slow down this project. Al-Khelaïfi felt that he did not have time. “I don’t do politics. I didn’t understand (their choice). We need a stadium in 3 or 4 years. We don’t have time to wait (the elections) otherwise we are behind other clubs in Europe. We need to build quickly.» It remains to be determined the location of this future stadium. “We have options», assures the Parisian boss. To the great dismay of the supporters.
