Natasha Lyonne is an actress who wears many hats — and she will soon possibly add feature film director and writer to that oeuvre.

The star of His Three Daughters, opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon, teased in a recent interview with the New York Times that she is working on her first movie, which she wrote and expects to helm soon. She is hopeful for the project’s timeline, especially “if we can just get me a second or third self,” she said in jest.

While the Poker Face actress, who is currently filming Season 2 of the Rian Johnson sleuth series (alongside directing, writing and producing), was reticent to share details about the pic’s synopsis, she revealed: “If you’re a dog person, then you’re going to love it, because it plays with time, just like dog years do.” (The veteran actress has a 14-year-old dog named Rootbeer.)

She continued, “It’s heavy, if you’re a heavy cat, and if you’re an even heavier cat — well, it’s a comedy.”

However, given the project’s work-in-progress nature, Lyonne noted that she wouldn’t take the matter to heart if it didn’t come to fruition in its current iteration.

“I don’t really take too seriously a pass as a failure,” she explained. “I have a lived experience that it’s actually not how it works. It just hasn’t found its correct permutation yet.”

She concluded, “That’s mostly to say to the kids at home, you never know what the destiny of your own work is.”

Outside of the aforementioned projects, Lyonne is also currently tapped to star in Marvel’s highly-anticipated The Fantastic Four, alongside Pedro PascalVanessa KirbyJoseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, among others. Earlier this year, the Russian Doll actress’ production company Animal Pictures inked a first-look deal with global entertainment group Sister. As an executive, the company is behind four shows on air, including Apple TV+’s Loot, starring Maya Rudolph, her friend and previous Animal Pictures partner. She will also soon star opposite Jenna Ortega in Taika Waititi’s film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel Klara and the Sun.
